James Demers is a patent attorney with substantial experience representing a wide range of clients. Prior to entering the legal profession, Dr. Demers was continuously involved in laboratory research for about twenty-six years (1971 – 1997), beginning with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program at M.I.T.
His professional scientific career included graduate and post-doctoral work in academia, and over a decade as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. Jim concentrates on patent drafting, patent prosecution, and patent opinion work. Jim works in all areas of technology and has successfully represented inventors in many complex and challenging cases. He has special expertise dealing with US, PCT, and EPO practices in the chemical,pharmaceutical, and mechanical arts,
nanotechnology, biotechnology, and solid state devices. He is experienced in preparing opinions of counsel regarding infringement, validity, and freedom to operate.
Dr. Demers has a B.S. in Chemistry from M.I.T. and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Stanford University, and an M.S. in Management of Technology from Polytechnic University. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
